Decisions about your surgery are based on the cancer biology, stage of growth, medical issues, and your wishes. Your treatment plan is made collaboratively by our breast surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists. In order to provide the highest quality care as efficiently as possible, your entire Ironwood team is located in one location at each of the Ironwood Women’s Centers.
We offer several options for oncoplastic and breast reconstructive surgery to help rebuild the shape of the breast after surgery, reduce scarring and preserve as much of the breast tissue as possible. Our breast surgeons collaborate with plastic surgeons for reconstructive decisions for mastectomies and lumpectomies requiring bilateral symmetry procedures, reductions, and augmentations. Decisions about breast reconstruction are planned depending on the need for adjuvant treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation.
Your beast surgeon will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan. Options of chemotherapy or radiation may be discussed.
Breast reconstruction restores the breasts to their natural shape. Some patients need to have their breast(s) reconstructed after cancer treatment for a variety of reasons. During this surgery, the goal is to repair any indentations or irregularities. When possible, it’s advantageous to preform reconstructive surgery at the same time as breast cancer surgery.
