Dr. Vaidya joined Ironwood Women’s Centers in July 2016. Dr. Rashmi Pradhan Vaidya who is double Board Certified in Surgery having trained in both India (2000) and the US (2009) has been practicing exclusively breast surgical oncology since completing her Breast Surgery Fellowship from the Cleveland Clinic in 2009.
Dr. Vaidya practices a patient-centered, evidence-based approach to breast cancer treatment. She engages in a collaborative, multidisciplinary breast cancer care for each patient. Decisions regarding the type or the timing of surgery versus chemotherapy are coordinated with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and plastic surgeons to optimize the oncological and cosmetic excellence. She also believes in the judicious adoption of innovations into her practice. She recently participated in the ICE3 NIH trial for cryoablation/ freezing of small breast cancers using liquid nitrogen, a procedure done using ultrasound guidance in the office setting under local anesthesia alone, with excellent results.
Her surgical repertoire includes oncoplastic breast surgery, skin sparing, nipple sparing and modified radical mastectomies, sentinel node biopsy, axillary dissections and reconstructive breast procedures done in concert with plastic surgery. Her advanced training in Japan gives her the ability to offer a minimally invasive approach to select patients for certain breast surgery procedures.
In the office setting Dr. Vaidya sees patients for the following conditions: newly diagnosed breast cancer, breast cancer treatment, minimally invasive image-guided breast biopsy, genetic counseling for family history, risk assessment for high-risk pathology and benign breast diseases.
Dr. Vaidya is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and serves on The Imaging Certification Committee, and the Ultrasound Review Committee. Dr. Vaidya is registered yoga teacher (RYT 200) recognized by Yoga Alliance.
