What is Wellness?
Wellness is defined as “the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.” There are a variety of ways one can actively work to achieve balance. The key is to find a style of wellness that honors you. The pursuit of wellness requires self-responsibility. That can take place in the form of self-care.
Self-care is a key component to achieving and maintaining wellness. It does not need to be grandiose, though it is nice to be intentional about the choices we make to reach our optimal health.
This can mean putting your phone on “Do Not Disturb” during the evening to spend uninterrupted time with your family. It can be taking the time to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and read a book. The list can go on and on. If you are uncertain where to start, the Integrative Services team at Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers is here to help!
We believe in treating all elements of wellness; physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental. You will find that we offer a diverse selection of classes that will help you to live well on your cancer journey.
Learning to Live Well
Learn ways to gain and maintain physical balance through the art of Tai Chi. Quiet your mind with heartfulness meditation. Be present by sitting with others in a support group. There is something for everyone.
Ask your medical oncologist regarding our Integrative Oncology program led by Dr. Heidi Rula. The goal of Integrative Oncology is to enhance our patient’s wellness and improve their quality of life while treating cancer with conventional oncology care.
